Re: Exchange 2007 – No incoming emails – intermittent

I will go through and check the events. The good thing is, I can bet that it will happen again this Friday around 7AM. The only thing I can see right off is the first backup of the day happens at 6AM, but that always seems to be successful. I will let you know what I find.

Re: How to get imported AD Contacts to show up in GAL

Now I can email every contact. But, I can not get a rule to auto-forward to one of them. It allows me to set it to auto-forward, but the email never gets to the contact. There are no errors that I can see.

I have tried both a regular rule and an Out of Office rule.

Found the problem. Had to enable forwarding on the default route on the server.

Re: How to get imported AD Contacts to show up in GAL

This thread has a lot of info as well: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/Q_23791815.html

In the end, I just need a straight forward contact with name and email address so I ended up going with:

    Import-csv ‘c:gal.csv’ |ForEach{New-MailContact -Name $_.displayName -ExternalEmailAddress $_.mail}

and only exported Displayname and mail from the 2003 domain

Re: How to get imported AD Contacts to show up in GAL

With the above import, I only need the following fields I believe:
    First Name
    Last Name
    ExternalEmailAddress

What heading do I need in the csv file or do I need any?

I also did a total csvde export in 2008 and there doesn’t seem to be an attribute for external email address and the list did not include the Exchange contact that I created.

Re: smtp 554 Sender denied between two internal exchange servers

    UPDATE

I just ran into this problem again with a different sender being denied. After going through all of the settings again, we found that if we unchecked “Filter messages with blank senders” in message delivery properties, that the emails would get passed onto the other Exchange servers. We use a 3rd party for spam/virus filtering so we plan to leave it unchecked.

NEVERMIND….I have been messing with this for a week. I just removed all redirection settings from any GPOs and just made a redirection GPO, applied it to the user OU and it worked great.

    Sorry for wasting your time.

I can’t think back to 2000, but in 2003, if you go to the default recipeint policy, you should be able to edit it there.

Re: Outlook clients connecting to the wrong server

Depending on the version of Outlook you are using, you can create a .cmw file using Office Custom Maint. Wizard (Office 2003) to change the default path to the exchange server. I have done this when migrating users from from one domain to another. Once the .cmw file is created, I just used a gpo to assign a login script to all of the computers that ran the .cmw file.

    Here is the script:

    Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject(“WScript.Shell”)
    WshShell.run “\servernameshareMaintWiz.exe /c \servernameshareoutlookprofilechange.CMW /qb-

Or you can create a PICS file for Office 2007

    Re: Export-mail – Im stuck…

I am not sure about the error you are getting, but to do a list of users, create the list, and add this to the beginning of your command: get-content c:users.txt | Get-mailbox…

This reads the data in the .txt file and pipes it into the Get-Mailbox command.

Just point to where you have the txt file. I have done this and it works. One username per line in the txt file. I believe maxthreads can be as high as 30.

    Re: exchange recpient preventing

If you put that persons email address in the recipient filter in the Message Delivery Properties your org should stop accepting the email for that address.

I still don’t understand what you are trying to accomplish.

Re: Configure TLS on exchange 2003 to send/receive mail with specific customer

I have client that has over 60 domains and I have all of their domains listed. They send me an update about once a month with add/deletes so that I can make changes as required.

So for the outgoing part, are you saying that i would require to create an new smtp connector just for this customer?
and i can choose the option of “use dns to route to each address space on this connector” instead of “forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts”
as for address space i need to add smtp with customer domain address eg:abc.com instead of address space with “*” like what is set on default smtp connector.

Yes, just set the address space to the domain/domains that they have and use DNS. Make sure you check the TLS Encryption though. That is what makes it required.

Re: Configure TLS on exchange 2003 to send/receive mail with specific customer

As for incoming, you should be able to just receive the TLS opportunistically if you have the cert installed on the vs.

The outgoing will require an SMTP connector to their domain but does not require one of their smarthosts. you can point it anywhere and it will still process the traffic and will require TLS if you check the TLS Encryption box on the Advanced>>Outbound security part of the connector.

I figured out that if you ADMT the user prior to xcopy’ing the profile, both SIDS have access to the profile and it works.

Re: Migration of Profiles (ownership SID)

I am not looking to migrate from V1 to V2, or vice versa. The profile will stay V1, it is an Inter-org move so the ownership of the profile is what I need to resolve. I would have thought that after migrating the user w/ SID history, it wouldn’t be a problem.

For such small offices, I would suggest Terminal Services to connect the remote sites to the main site.

Re: Upgrade before or after ADMT??

    ..upon further testing…

Setting the domain to be an Internal Relay domain works fine. If the account is not found in the new Exchange org, it forwards it through the send connector to the other org across domains. Here is the link to technet:

Re: Upgrade before or after ADMT??

We have stood up the new domain w/ Exchange 2007. Is it possible to have a period of coexistence between both domain/orgs where my MX records would point to the new 2007 Exchange server and if the account doesn’t exist, it would forward the mail to the 2003 Exchange server?

Or am I stuck with a big move everyone at one time scenario?

Will setting up the domain as an Internal relay work for this?

    Thanks again.

Re: EX 2007 Enterprise CCR with EX 2003 HT-CAS?

Thank you both. Just to clarify, I am going to be 2007 across the board now. My final question (for this thread..lol) is:

Is it ok to have Exchange Enterprise on the mailbox servers and standard for any other role servers, i.e. HT-CAS? Do I loose any functionality if I do this?

Re: EX 2007 Enterprise CCR with EX 2003 HT-CAS?

that was my original question, If I could use my 2003 Exchange licenses on the HT-CAS server so I didn’t have to buy another 2007 license.

Now that I know that EX 2K7 is required for that server, can it be the standard version even though my mailbox servers are Enterprise?

Re: EX 2007 Enterprise CCR with EX 2003 HT-CAS?

I am really suprised that I haven’t seen that brought up much, since Microsoft stopped it’s upgrade policy, reusing the 2K3 licenses for roles other than the mailbox seems to be a no brainer.

    Would I loose any functionality?
