I had provided Tina with a list of emails, it should have been the same list.  Next time around I can post a message here too for full transparency.

It’s all good, we realize what this is here so there aren’t really any expectations.  A weekend call is a possibility, but can be challenging to wrangle everyone.  Let’s cross that bridge when we get there and I’ll make note of the issues of getting a time that you guys are able to meet.

The call was brief.  We mostly just introduced ourselves as individuals and a business.  We are going to be undertaking a “refresh’ of Petri.com as a whole…I hesitate to call it a redesign but we’ll see what comes of this.

We want the forums to be a major part of this imitative and to that end we’d love the feedback of our community and specifically you guys as much as is feasible and as much as individuals are willing.    Jeremy eluded to a feeling that the role of the moderator needs a little more definition and to that end  we asked him, and would like to ask all of you, what you see that role as being in the ideal situation.

There will be more calls in the future, we’ll keep you guys posted.

Haha, I saw you and then two other callers that had no name. Hopefully those were real people, and maybe even mods.

Been pretty quiet around here.  Is this a “no news is good news” situation or are we all just  busy with the new year?

Yeah I think I see what’s going on.  In a gross way, this is by design…

I’ll bring this up in our next meeting and see if I can get some changes implemented.

Pushed out several updates over the past two weeks.

    1. Mobile display is vastly improved

    2. Improved typography styling.

    3. Additional software for moderation.

Is the issue the banner at the top of the site or the forums?  The implied solution of modifying how BBpress loads is probably a way bigger project than we’re able to undertake right now to be honest.

OK, thanks for the heads up – I have been TRASHING, not SPAMMING, but will mend my ways now

For what it’s worth, I have been too until this crossed my mind last week.

They all seemed to disappear the next time i went back to the forums so not sure what happened.

Well, keep in mind that once you delete a user, there is an option to delete all content related to that user and I always do that with spammers.

Please make sure that you guys are marking the posts as SPAM too.  This will send the data over to Akismet which, in theory, is going to help them better fight SPAM on our site.

Not sure if you are aware but there are a massive number of spam post that have just appear, they weren’t there earlier today, from 4 and 5 days ago.

Apologies but no, i’m not.  I have been working 12+ hour days this week trying to finalize development of an internal, back-office tool. I have not really had time to peruse the forums much in several days.

On that note, we’re finishing some QA issues in a release of code for the forums that will:

    1. Add some additional mod tools
    2. Clean up some typography issues
    3. Improve mobile rendering

I have taken care of these spam users, thank you for reporting.

Thank you guys and sorry for the chaos.  At leas they were nice enough to categorize their spam correctly…

I’m investing a lot of time this week into better moderation tools for us. Additionally, i’m reaching out to the 3 anti-spam platforms that we leverage, what happened this weekend shouldn’t have been possible.

Up to date.  I also pushed out an update this afternoon that should ensure deleted user’s content will be removed.  If we continue to see anonymous posts, this would indicate something else is going on.

    Re: Redirect

So, although I kind of which the forum the post was in was located in the URL itself, it’s not. So even when you move a topic, the URL shouldn’t actually change.

    Re: Users moving posts

Anyone that can edit a thread can move it to a different forum, this would include authors of the post itself yes.

Users are reporting an issue with the“remember me” feature of log in.

    This should now be fixed.

We are working on a few updates that I would expect to be pushed out by next Tuesday:

    1. Improved Mobile Views
    2. Improved styling on typography and post content in general

I have added a note in the GitHub repo that mods should be able to re-categorize posts. Of all the things on the new software that strikes me as silly (and one I didn’t notice prior to the migration), this one is really silly.

As I was writing that out, I had an epiphany…

in reply to: So, forums were migrated… #610060

This is what you get when you use Blog software for a help Forum.

You mean a platform that unifies user accounts? One that is actively maintained and secure? One that uses the latest technologies? One that we are able to actually develop on alongside the rest of the website?

Not hosting user images is a real bad thing

Depends on the angle you’re coming from. I agree it’s not the greatest user experience, but there are other reasons for this that we have to take into consideration.  VB hosted the images internally but because of how they did it, migrating them over without manually going through each post was impossible.  Your assumption that the location of the image file is the sole factor in the longevity of that file is not accurate.

Lack of proper Moderation tools made moderating difficult as well so after 15 years I had enough

You’re insinuating that a few weeks of learning curve and feature identification/development is the reason you didn’t want to be a moderator after 15 years?  That seems kind of misleading.

Changing the name from Freshnessto Latest was one of the minor and likely easiest to change but for 6 weeks this is still like the vegetable section in the supermarket.

Why are you assuming that your desire to change that word is enough for us to devote time to making it so on your own time-frame? That’s unfortunately not how the development process is going to be able to work around here. I do agree that I’m not sure I like that adjective but it’s really not a priority at the moment unfortunately.

You can sort of QUOTE but the couple of times that I used it I didn’t know if there was a quote or not.  More concerning is there is no CODE option that will give the scroll bars and not wrap the code entered.

This is an example of something we are actually working on right now.  I’ll let everyone know when we release an update that includes a more intuitive way to quote other posts.

If you post back again, I hope you avoid getting caught in HTML hell.

I have not been able to replicate this. I asked you for instructions on how to do it but you never actually provided that for me. I don’t doubt it’s happening but without knowing how it’s happening it is very difficult to “fix” it.

While vB5 was not great, it was a lot more Forum friendly than this stuff now.

And a NASCAR handles better than a Civic, that doesn’t make it the right tool for the job.  There is a long list of reasons why we needed to get off that software. I shared many of the items on that list with the moderators, a conversation you were privy to.

I have had to use this account since my biggles77one has been blocked from replying to posts. I imagine this post will not last long or will the account.

You requested that account be deleted…

    How did someone post anonymously?

Most likely someone posted something, then they were banned, and the content remains.  That said…it’s supposed to delete all related content

Just out of curiosity, I realize the (lack of) methods to handle the SPAM sucks, but is the volume similar, better, or worse than on VB?

    – Moderators gone

Not sure what you mean here, this isn’t true.

    – No phone compatibility

This is being addressed this week

    – No alerts when you get an answer to your post

You are able to subscribe to both forums and posts and get email alerts.

    – No quoting in replies

    In the development queue

    – No ability to paste images (only URLs to images)

Our current policy is that our servers will not be hosting user content (text aside, obviously). This is unlikely to change.

Never mind – I asked the same question earlier in this thread…  The Merge option only allows me to merge with an existing thread, not move the thread into a new forum, but it is visible for the problem thread.

    I can achieve this though.

    **EDIT**
As in, this would be easy enough to build out.

I didn’t realize this either!  I should be able to just remove that functionality.  I’ll look at it today, update you when I’m able to finish it.
