    Re: DNS and IPV6

    Hi all

sorry thought I would post an update.

My success was short lived, since the DHCP lease have updated I am now only getting the IPV6 addresses.

Other than disabling IPV6 on all clients, of which I dont really what to do because I know in time we will have to work with it. Is there any way to get both addressses in DNS ???

    Thanks

The clients are all setup as DHCP, not statically.

To re enable IPV6 I re ticked the tick box on the network adaptor.

I believe my predecessor un ticked it.

    Re: DNS and IPV6

    Hi all

Thought I would pass this gem on, the pc’s that didn’t have their IPV4 addresses registering within DNS all had IPV6 disabled.

Would you believe as soon as I enabled IPV6 the IPV4 address appeared.

If anyone can explain why I would be intrigued :)

yeah for me I was going to create an OU called Cambridge and then within that split it into Computers and users…this then leaves me the option of doing it by department should it ever come to that :)

Thanks all for the friendly advice

    Re: DNS and IPV6

In essence all my clients are win 7 and as were some register there ipv4 address and ipv6 In DNS some only register the ipv6 address. I would prefer both or at least the ipv4 as we don’t use ipv6 as yet.

    Thanks for that

Maybe a better question would be to how do I assure that both the ipv6 and ipv4 address are pulled into DNS?

Re: Old host names in DNS – Windows 2008 domain?

Hi dont know if you have this sorted but there is a issue if the host names are in caps and come from a 2003 or previous dc. Although I can’t give u the exact fix just google it you will find the msoft fix and deletion instructions.

I had the same problem with some old printers.

Obviously ignore me if it isn’t this ;)

    Re: General question

    Hi All,

Thought I would update this that by using the Cisco Network Assistant, I could see that it was errors on the port. I could reset these depending on the errors so in essence wasn’t a hardware fault.

    Thanks

    ahh no it’s not

Plus I have used the lockout tool and noticed its 4 laptops that are locking the account. All IBM x220i’s running win7 pro 64 bit, I have checked all tasks and services and cannot find anything.

I wondered if its a authentication issue, however I have other Win 7 pro 64 bit clients.

    Re: Event ID 12294 errors

I know it’s not lockable, in AD if I go to the admin acct it will state it’s locked but still allow me to log in. It’s a msoft failsafe.

And I know you are trying to help but I have combed the 3 servers we have for anything using the DA. We are a very simple setup but I joined on Monday and the previous IT engineer left before I joined.

    Thanks JM

I have actually noticed this and disabled the spare NIC, I am still wondering why the previous admin didn’t pair the NIC cards but heh thats for another day.

I just want to confirm, you are saying that I can remove all the authorised DHCP servers without losing my scope details ?
