Well it’s not really a TS issue, it might also be a GPO issue.

But since this topic has been utterly raped by moderators, I kindly resign from helping on this stupid forum ever again.

I will be leaving, ban me all you want.

    You’ve been very helpful!

True, is a user mapping, kept in your user hive.

And you dont need admin rights to delete a “connected” printer. Unlike the printer itself.

easiest way I know of, check in c:users or docs and settings. For the changed date on users profiles..

resultant data for a user is only available if you’ve ever logged in to that pc locally or per RDP.

Computer policy applied should just give you what you expect. But I didnt check for correct syntax.

Or perhaps I have no idea on what you’re trying to do.. .

Re: GPO – Change file association, programmatic access..

Hi should that option for whatever reason not work correctly(I hear something about office 2007 policy for programmatic access not working) I have a solution for that as well.

I dont post all my solutions cause I have yet to find a good program to document them in. So I have to get my solutions from memory or in this case from a live GPO. And Im lazy, so if you dont need it I wont look it up =-)

    Good luck!

Re: GPO – Change file association, programmatic access..

I searched yesterday for the setting I used on a terminal 2008 R2 server. I couldnt find it back. but I do remember how I found it the last time.

Last time I did it like this:
Create a new user with a clean profile. Look for the key Taskband. in the user profile. It should be located in
    HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsExplorerTaskband (from memory)
unfortunately I do not remember which value sets the taskbar, I do remember it was a binary value.

If you make the changes to the taskbar(quicklaunch portion where powershell and servermanager is located) to the way you would like it to be. The binary key will change and you could use that as a default setting.

Use group policy preferences to set this key, but also select apply once and dont reapply. All users will have this key set once and you a new default for users. But they will still be able to put other quicklaunch icons there.

If you need more explanation, just ask.

I actually have solutions for all of your stated problems. Do you still need them ?
If you’re done already it must not have been to many users ?

Seems point 5 might be the best to answer since new users will still have those icons

does the spooler actually crash on the server or does it keep running?
If it crashes, you could just set the restart timer very low. like several seconds or less(doesnt allow from ui).

You dont share enough information. But I’ll guess anyway.
Likely the user doesnt have rights to either the script location or cscript.exe. Perhaps check eventviewer ?

quite right. I would leave it on. But also create a policy which allows admin access(RPC connections) for management and WMI. Perhaps some other programs as well.

Re: Batch file to edit a txt file that is part of a compiled exe file using for /f

Im having a little trouble reading your code

Might be me or maybe I dont understand exactly what you are trying to do.
If you just need a number to run as input like 1 to 25 use the for /l command.

    FOR /L %variable IN (start,step,end) DO command [command-parameters]

Please be specific in what you want to accomplish.
Why is there a ” delimiter is your text file ‘”‘ delimited ?

raid 1 with shadow config is much easier!

Run chkdsk /r for a full check
    Your eventlog will show you the results if a reboot is necesary(which is necesarry because of the pagefile);

would you have an option to put the bat file in another location; perhaps/probably something is going wrong with the path you specified in the task scheduler.

    Perhaps try %programdata% instead.

Re: SBS 2008 disk drive configuration

The suggested Dell configuration is fine

I recommend you keep your pagefile on the c:disk..
    Put OS in mirror

Exchange in RAID 10; keep logs and database together, this is in no way a problem.
If you have a scsi controller with some cache(512MB/1GB?) it shouldnt be a problem to keep user data there as well. Though I dont actually recommend doing that, It shouldnt really be any problem.

You could also consider creating a RAID 5 array for the user data as it is better performance wise and easier to expand. And it would separate your user data from your exchange database.

furthermore putting it on one scsi controller is not a problem load wise; But you will have a SPOF. Making an affordable completely redundant setup is impossible.
Personally I’ve never had any scsi controller die, unless it arrived dead. =-)

    Hope this helps!

in reply to: Two Servers, Two Sites, One Domain. #292266

Re: Two Servers, Two Sites, One Domain.

I can tell you this is a very common setup so yes it’s possible.

There isnt much complex configurating to do really; just make sure both server join the same domain.

Make sure they have a connection through your internet line (dedicated?)
Open site and services snapin, specify the 2 network ranges for your sites 1 for each location, they cannot be the same ofcourse.

Create sites last make sure the site use the correct ranges, put the server in the correct site et voila.

You could configure both DC’s to be Global catalog, so clients dont have to authenticate over the internet line. Should you decide not to, make sure you put the schema master role on the server which is not the GC.

    Good luck

wait, you can’t logon to the console as well ? hmm that makes it slightly harder I suppose.

Do you have group management policies installed on a client computer ?
If so, you can still run that as a domain admin. That way you could resolve your problem by checking the policy’s applied and changing them..

=-) being slightly more helpfull mode

just for clarification if anyone doesnt follow. the only reason any groups grant you remote desktop priviledges is because it is defined so in a group policy.
Which inturn probably write some registry key in binary in your registry =-)

Yea duh! Try remote desktopping to a DC without specifying your domain you’ll see a nice Access is Denied message..

    But that’s not helping anyway..

Perhaps also look at the configuration of the nic, might be it jumps to powersaving al of a sudden either by driver setting or because windows is idling for to long.

In the last case you shouldnt change anything, just tell your users they should work harder =-)

Did you try to login with the local admin account ?(2)
Perhaps you forgot to specify the domain to which you wanted to login
or perhaps your local admin has right to logon remotely and you should try that.

Do you have physical access to the machine ?

Btw I dont know about other people, but I like as much information as possible. I dont like guesswork..

Perhaps instead of asking for the resolution as you would like it to happen, maybe it is more useful if you told us you’re problem.

Re: DNS & MX record trouble

courteous or simply polite. Well that maybe your definition then.

I was just giving friendly advice. I just like being slightly cynical. must be my line of work. Since you are not one of my customers I dont NEED to help you. But as a fellow IT Consultant I like to help people same as I like to receive some from time to time.

Since you are the one asking for help. I think you should be polite, even when others are not begging you to give you some assistance.

Back on topic. If I get your story correctly a delisting would not help you much, since you keep getting listed again pretty soon on another ip address your customer has available. Am I correct so far ?

If so then the best step would be to check why you get listed by barracuda. Im not familiar with barracuda. But usually people get blacklisted because an unusual amount of mails is being sent in a very short time or the ip is on a list for dynamic ip’s or you have an open relay. Also it is possible your reverse dns is being checked, which when it doesnt correspond to the correct e-mail address gets you blacklisted.

There are more causes to getting blacklisted, but If I were you, I would read their website, and find out what they check for and how you got on their blacklist. If you cannot find out, try phoning/mailing them.

Internal DNS should not be a huge problem. It’s just very inconvenient.

If my conclusion is wrong then either I did not read your story very well or you didnt make it clear enough. I dont really care which.

Hope to have helped you, if not I guess I wont see the difference on my paycheck anyways ..

Re: Domain Admin credentials incorrect "all of a sudden"

    3. Renaming AND disabling local known accounts Guest, Administrator.

That’s likely the part wich changed your logon username for administrator.
you should boot the server in safe mode, then login with your administrator account. That way it wont be disabled at least.

Since the GPO isnt applied anymore you should be able to get back to a normal boot with full functionality.
