in reply to: DHCP Scope VLAN #314199

    Re: DHCP Scope VLAN

Wullie is right.. Just configure all ip address of your vlans to have your DHCP server as your IP Helper.

Its simply telling the subnet/ip of your vlan to get the ip from the specific scope that you created in your DHCP server.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Expanding subnet.

Do you have switches and have configured vlans in your network? I would check it from there first, If i do have communication between the two subnets. I may be able to access the other subnet, but for the other subnet i may not be allowed. Hope this gives you an idea. But anyway if this is not relevent you may always ignore..Dont stop researching..

I usually apply GPO’s (with loopback processing enabled) for WSUS to computers not to users.

Re: Add another domain name to fqdn option

I thinks you should consider creating another DC say MOSHE.local and give trust to MOSHE.com so you will have options on where the user can login. And do restrictions from there since the other is for third party. This is just me but I dont see the point in just changing the case of fqdn to upper.

Re: Microsoft Virtual PC or VMWare ???

    Hi J4mes,

I just created my mini lab. As recommended by Wullie I installed VM workstation(its not free though) and it works well for me. I have installed windows Server 2008 Std x86 and XP pro 32bit as client. I had no problems installing the VM as well as the OS’s in the VMware. I already have ADDS, DNS and DHCP roles in my server and all is working fine. As for the network config. of the VM i used HOST since its only my private/internal lab.

I was also choosing between MS Virtual PC and VMware. But I chose VM since I dont have experience in it and to have a knowledge on it is no a bad thing (since its one of the best if not the best VM tech out there). So its up to you now..Hope I helped shed some light..

in reply to: GPO conflicts , Right concept? #314193

Re: GPO conflicts , Right concept?

“All i want is that computers under York server should get manual address of proxy.”

This is what I think about this. You want computers under New York OU to have the proxy GPO right? Proxy settings is under User Configuration. So I think the conflict is that Computers are the one’s under New york OU not users. I think you need to enable loopback processing,if you want the Computer to get the proxy GPO regardless of who logs in.

Please Ingnore this reply if Im not making sense and not in the same page with you.. THanks

in reply to: Child domain removal? #314190

    Re: Child domain removal?

I dont know if Im really clear my apologies. Let me try Again.

The Parent domain is company.com, in the tree we have uk.company.com , in.company.com , as.company.com, af.company.com. The senior Admin wants all server 2008 to be R2. The as.company.com is the only one that is not WS2008 R2 so Im planning to rebuild it and remove it from the tree. It has AD and DNS roles. So what are the things i should do?
    1. dcpromo?
    2. after dcpromo remove ADDS and DNS?
    3. Will there be any effect in the parent domain?

I just want to remove as.company.com from the domain tree. and add it up later when I rebuilt it to R2.

    Thanks for Helping Guys

    Re: MS Office automatic template

    Thanks Ossian

I Actually want to do this to multiple users..Any way I already have the solution. Let me share it.

I created a logon script (batch file) on group policy.

    xcopy /s /r /y /c /d “\ServernameFolderFolder Office2007*.*” “C:Documents and Settings%username%Application DataMicrosoftTemplates”

I created a share and put the templates there. so basically the script will copy the templates from the server and paste it to the users Micorsoft office templates in their application data when they log in. Cheers ..remember to link the GP to the users who need the templates

Hi guys this issue has been solved. Mods you can already close this thread.

I was just impatient and did not wait for the 2008 DC to be in the dropdown list. So i thinks Trust is the way to have multiple domains in the XP logon to dropdown list. TY

Any other inputs on this guys? I really cant let outlook follow the user (meaning: I have to configure outlook every time the user logins/transfers to another computer. thier pst files are in their home drive. ) Do I really need 3rd party for this or exchange server?

Ow.. I see..So its normal then? That makes me happy Ossian .Thanks a bunch.. Ok on DC1 should i enable the Allow Zone Transfers when i install DNS in DC2? Because i did not enable Allow zone tranfers in DC1 but when I added DNS component on DC2 it was automatically replicated. Or allowing zone transfer is only applicable if im creating a secondary zone? So whats the best practise?

Actually what i did was manually install the DNS component and it was replicated. but i cant figure out why it did not do it automatically when i installed AD. or do i really have to install dns component manually? Or should it really be installed when i install AD in my DC2? Thanks

I already tried it on spare machines. BUt this problem is what i get.

“If i then just boot the server from the server 2008 disc and attempt the install that way it does then load into the 2008 setup but it then prompts me to install drivers for the cd/dvd drive – i point it to the drivers or any driver that i downloaded for the specific Desktop, i have on a USB drive which it see’s fine but then comes up and says no other devices found as if it’s not seeing the actual hard drives and won’t let me do anymore.

Re: Outlook Config for Roaming Users

Yes we can use roaming profile. But right now all their profiles are Stored locally. Is roaming profile only the option?

Note that MS do not recommend having a PST file on a network drive – I didnt know this

(and why are they using PSTs in an Exchange environment) — which version of Outlook are they using? – Outlook 2007

Well actually when i came in to this company this was their process
manual configure pop and smtp etc..

    Thanks

    nope its Windows server 2003

    @ossian
I am able to add DL Group but only in a shared that I created in my AD/DC itself.
But in my File server(member server that is joined to my DC) Im not able to add the DL group in the ACL or Share permission of a shared folder.

    Re: Group Nesting and Permissions

I think I already did this ossian. My problem is i want to add the DL’s in the Share permission of my Test Shared in my file server. But I am not able to see it. Objects are Users and Groups, Location is my testdomain.local. The DL’s I created are not listed when i click find now. However im able to see the global groups. I think im missing something. Or i misunderstood that a Domain Local group cant really be added in the Share or Access list of a shared folder in a File server(Member server).
