    Re: Anybody using SCCM with SQL on a separate server?

    Just finished an install for a client using a remote SQL DB.
    They are monitoring around 100 servers and performance is fine.
    SCOM is running as a VM as well

    Re: Multiple OWA sites on 1 CAS/organization

    Without logging on the a E2k7 box I would try the following
    1) create a new site in IIS
    2) Assign it a separate IP
    3) In EMS type
    New-OwaVirtualDirectory -name “owa” -OwaVersion Exchange2007 -WebSiteName “Default Web Site”

    replacing “default Web Site” with the site you just created

    No errors in the BPA.
    I have set a fixed DC to use to see if that resolves the issue.

    Re: New users not appearing in GAL

    This is one that has had me stumped for a while.
    The issue is as follows
    After adding users in bulk to AD from a script or any other way than through ADUC and then mail-enabling them in EMC they do not appear in the GAL or All Users.
    The problem is that the msExchHideFromAddressLists is set to FALSE. If this attribute is set to the user will appear in the GAL.
    This is however not the issue.
    The problem lies with the Default Address policy.

    The solution is as follows
    Create a new address policy in the EMC and make sure that is has the following settings

    Applies to all recipients
    The Addresses are
    @externaldomainname.com.au
    @internaldomain.local

    In ADSI Edit navigate to
    CN=Recipient Policies,CN=Org,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=Local
    Right click on the name of the policy that you just created
    Change the attribute
    msExchPolicyOrder to 2147483647

    Restart all Exchange services

    Open the EMS and type the following

    Get-user –resultsize unlimited | set-mailbox –applymanadoryproperties

    Open OWA and verify that all users are now in the GAL

    I had this as an open case with MS and their solution was to pay them to write a script to modify the msExchHideFromAddressLists

    An update on this
    I created a new Default address policy and new users added will now show up in the GAL…..I knew it was the policy not applying at the time the user was mail-enabled. The issue now is that I have a ton of users that I need to modify this attribute.
    I am speaking with MS again on Monday I’ll update when I have a responce from them

    Yeah I made the call to MS.
    I am fairly sure that no one on site would have made any changes to user like this, although anything is possible at a school ;)

    Can you confirm the ‘showInAddressBook’ attribute is correctly set to TRUE on the userobjects.

    Rems

    I have checked on users that are not showing up in the GAL.
    They have
    CN=Default Global Address List,CN=All Global Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=ORG,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=abc,DC=com

    CN=All Users,CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=ORG,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=abc,DC=com

    I had checked here before which was making more confused as to why when a user is specified to appear in the GAL and also specifically set to not be hidden from the GAL.

    If the mailbox is edited in EMC and hidden form that GAL, changes applied, and then un-hidden from that GAL they will show up

    Thanks for the continued assistance

    EDIT:

    After looking at the article you linked I went through it and got the following

    I modified a user and removed all entries in the showInAddressList

    Then ran
    Set-Mailbox -ApplyMandatoryProperties -Identity “Joe User” -Verbose

    The results were as follows

    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : Beginning processing.
    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : Administrator Active Directory session settings are:
    View Entire Forest: ‘False’, Default Scope: ‘abc.com’,
    Configuration Domain Controller: ‘dc.abc.com’,
    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : Searching objects “Joe User” of type “ADUser”

    “abc.com/users/juser” with the home domain controller “$null”.
    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : The RUS server that will apply policies on the specified
    recipient is “exch.abc.com”.
    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : No properties changed for the object
    “abc.com/users/juser”.
    WARNING: The command completed successfully but no settings of
    ‘abc.com/users/juser’ have been modified.
    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : Saving object “abc.com/users/juser” of type “ADUser” and state
    “Unchanged”.
    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : Previous operation run on domain controller
    ‘exc.abc.com’.
    VERBOSE: Set-Mailbox : Ending processing.

    I then checked in ADSI and nothing had been updated in the showInAddressList, ie, it was blank

    I am starting to think that the RUS/Default Policy is not functioning

    ps
    Shall I flag this thread is to be moved to Exchange forum?

    They have alias’s (mailnickname).

    You can close the exchange thread if you like, it just seems very strange to me that this attribute need to be set to not set as opposed to FALSE.

    I have just checked on another clients Exchange server and this is the way it is set on the user objects in that environment as well. Guess its just something that I never noticed in E2K7

    Re: Script to modify msExchHideFromAddressLists attribute

    Thanks Rems but this will set the
    MSExchHideFromAddressLists to FALSE
    I need it to clear the attribute completely.
    I am having a problem with a clients Exchange Server 2007 that if a user object has MSExchHideFromAddressLists = FALSE it will not appear in the GAL……it will appear in the other Address Lists like All Users and any manually created one but not the GAL.
    I have varified this by going into ADSI and changing this attribute to Not Set. The user then magically appears in the GAL
    I have checked what ADModify does and that will set the MSExchHideFromAddressLists to False as well.

    New users are not appearing in the GAL
    MS has told me this is the reason. As soon as I change this setting on the user object in ADSIEdit the appear in the GAL

    Have you done an update of the OAB on the Exchange server?
    Also do a update-filedistributionservices -identity CASServer to do an update of the web
    based OAB for Outlook 2007 clients
    update-offlineaddressbook nameofOAB to force and update of the OAB in powershell

    As Simon said, IS back up is much better than brick level.
    If this is a CCR cluster then I would also recommend that you have you backup target the passive node to reduce any performance hit that you may result.

    Re: Bulk Mailbox creation in Exch 2k7

    Export you AD user out to a CSV file and then use powershell to create the mailboxes
    My powershell scripting is a bit rusty but do a google search for csv import powershell, you just need to use the enable-mailbox command once you have the starting part of the script

    In the end it will look some thing like this

    $import-csv “c:user.csv” | foreach {Enable-Mailbox -Name $_.username -Database $_.Database -Alias $_.username}

    You are running the script as a member of Domain Admins.
    Does an object with that name already exist ? Are there any signs used in the cname of any of the contacts?

    Yep, running logged in as a domain admin
    No obects exist with the same cn
    No symbols are being used in the cn, all test with no spaces as well.
    I’ll try yours out tomorrow, thanks for the help :bowdown:

    Assumptions: – no Edge Transport server, firewall port 25 is open and routed to the mail server

    Have you enabled anonymous authentication on the default receive connector and created a Internet send connector?
    If not, do that

    EDIT: I have just seen the other 3 threads you have going on the same topic. I would suggest posting updates in there rather than starting a new thread

    I was told today that I am doing a Domino to Exchange 2k7 migration in a few weeks for around 250 users. I will be following the msexchange.org articles…….note to self kill all sales people that sell first and ask engineers second.
    I’ll let you know how I go on both of these projects :wink:

    Stupid question time…….have you installed the Client Access role on a server?
    It will not run on a cluster mailbox server so it will need to be on another server. If you havent got a CAS then you wont have OWA in IIS

    There is no upgrade from exchange 2003 to 2007 only a migration path.

Is it possible to configured smart host on Single copy cluster? A single copy cluster only installed the mailbox role.Wht can i do in this case?

    There is no way to add the smart host to the SCC. This is because only the maibox role can be clustered and the Smart Host configuration is done on the Hub Transport Role. If you require redundancy on you Hub Transport I would look into NLB http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/98d46a24-96d8-412c-87d8-28ace62323d21033.mspx?mfr=true
    Or DNS Round Robin with multiple Hub Transport servers

    Re: Exchange 2k->2k7 move issues

    Problem resolved.
    The admin at the company had fiddled.
    The Exchange 2K->2K7 routing connector had been deleted over the weekend and the Echange 2K7 receive connectors bar the default had been deleted and the default receiver had been disabled.
    I recreated the connector in Exchange 2K and enable the exchange 2K7 receive connector and surprise surprise it all worked.
    The bouncing between servers was between exchange 2k and the smart host.

    Re: Exchange 2003 Outlook Web Access

    Sorry about the delay in the responce.
    No ISA and it is the full product not SBS

    When I try to browse the site in IIS I get a 404 as well. I thought that it may have been CA’s Secure Content Manager taking port 25 but I have tested taht on a different box today and that works fine.

    SCM listens on port 25 and redirects to exchange on 2525.
    I wouldnt have thought that it would be an issue, I should still be able to get to the OWA log on screen, but at the moment I am not making any assumptions.

    I am putting a call in to MS about this so I’ll let you guys know how it turns out (being a gold partner does has it’s plus’s I guess :) )
