Re: Unable to access the SBS 2003 server/Domain Controller

Thanks. I now have. It pointed me to an article (MS KB 875422 – using method 3) that enabled me to identify how to remove a rogue NIC that must have been the problem. I previously tried removing the NIC with set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1, and then devmgmt.msc. So I seem to now be back on track.

Thanks for that tip and your help.

Re: Unable to access the SBS 2003 server/Domain Controller

    Hi Steven,

Both Vista & XP PCs. From recollection they were either joined to the domain via their initial setup – (join domain or workgroup) or from AD. Until last week, they were all functioning correctly.

Windows firewall is turned off and I looked at Group Policies. None were enforced or configured, but I disabled SBS firewall in the GP Management.

    Hi Marcel,

Windows firewall on the SBSDC is turned off. There is no other firewall on it or on the other server. The firewall is actually the network gateway/Smoothwall box 192.168.0.1

Re: Unable to access the SBS 2003 server/Domain Controller

    Hi Marcel,

Thanks. I deselected the V6 IP and also removed the external (ISP) IP addresses from the DNS settings of the workstation so just the local DNS Server Ip is there. But I still cannot connect to it.

When doing ipconfig/renew I get the error ” An error occurred while renewing interface Unable to contact your DHCP server. Request time out.

DHCP is running and authorised. It is the only DHCP server on the network. When I look at the statistics on it, it shows Nil Discovers, Offers, Requests, Acks, Nacks, Declines etc.

The DNS server also passes the database consistency checks.

It also seems odd that when I set a workstation a fixed IP of 192.168.0.*, I still cant ping the SBSDC or remote desktop to it. But I can ping that worksation from the SBSDC and remote desktop from the SBSdc to another wokstation.

The recursive and simple DNS tests pass.

What other tests are there for the DHCP server?
