Thanks.I seldom use my little Mobile I bought from Woolworths years ago. Since unlike many modern mobiles it is not connected to the Internet all the time,so unlike modern ones I do not have to recharge it every few days. In fact as I seldom switch it on I need not recharge it for weeks.

My daft mobile mad family pester me to take my mobile out with me every time at my age of 85. I ask them to please explain how could I use a mobile when out and I need one hand for a walking stick and the other hand to carry something?

Sorry to show my ignorance buy how do I check what versions of Win 10 the local shop has installed for me. The older engineer seemed to have done a good job with my Laptop, but with this tower some lazy young enginieer failed to manually copy over all the old files when he replaced the old drive with this smaller but nice fast SD drive. I manged to backup most beforehand. He did give me back the old drive admitting | might need to copy from it!

Yes I tried Firefox and Chrome as well a IE all just as bad. I phoned Fasthosts now in the Phillipines. What appeared to sound like a young schoolboy answered , he twice emailed my a 5 number code both fail to allow me to log in. A have no trouble with a similar password emailed to me by Amazon.

I wonder am I allowed to change to another server like Go Daddy for the web space and Domaine name without having to pay again?

I am getting the hang of Win10 now. A warning if you have the older version of Skype installed. I could be upgraded to the fancy Win10 anytime but without any contacts showing. Sign out select another account and make sure you allow the Mic Webcam and Contacts to be used.

Sorry for the delay, I mainly use Yahoo as I belong to some of their Groups, but get the same problems with Hotmail bombarded with silly adverts and having to wait for them to show to use the mailers.

    Thanks Ossian

I discovered we only need one space between each address but with my eyesight I like to see something like ; after each address. Actually I notice Yahoo promptly changes the ; to ,

I never allow Skype to be activated until I need it. You can stop it always starting when you start Windows under tools.

I once tried to find a useful alternative to Skype with no success and would never abandon it in case someone manages to snoop on it as it is a godsend such us for our old codgers on the club committee. The special version MS prefer you to use for Windows 10 can cause trouble so use the old version. I get more trouble with BT land lines. If you do get hacked use malwarbytes and perhaps open another copy with a different email address.

Thanks very much but I cannot see any mention of SCART input or VGA plug output

Thanks for the massive amount of postings but they all appear to be only concerned with Scart to TV where there is no problem as I can connect a DVD player to lots of old TVs that have a Scart input using a standard Scart to Scart lead, I want to connect a DVD player to a colour Monitor then if OK to a PC/Laptop projector.

If someone can confirm a Scart to VGA will never work then I will know it is impossible. Otherwise I may lash out on another Scart to VGA lead if anyone can recommend where to buy it ( Not another cheap Chinese EBay one !!)

Actually the problem only occurred when I tried to open another Twitter account with a different email address and username. I was then pestered to follow umpteen silly people etc. while opening the account. So I promptly closed it that took some 30 days.

I do use FB to promote my daily pages on my site and it is interesting to see a group to all Old Boys once at http://www.sigord.co.uk/Schools.htm except I left in around 1958 most of the others left years later.

My housebound IT friend in Bexhill would agree with all you say about the strange Nerdy Windows 10. He only had it a short while to find a Windows update wrecked it. Like me he refuses to use the risky Skype update designed for Win 10 or the terrible alternative browser Edge. Never being to proud to read an instruction book so I have one on nearly every version of Windows over the years. I notice it states the wonderful Edge browser will not work on some sites!!

I should explain for the benefit of others, a friend finally solved the problem of always hearing my voice garbled by using the trouble shooters of Windows under the Control Panel.

If anyone else is thinking of removing AVG as Malwarebytes says say no extra Antivirus is also needed. I had no trouble removing AVG on this Win 7 and Win 10. Though it took a few minutes and the fact AVG must have been active at the time made no difference.

Thanks I presume I should open in safe mode first otherwise in normal mode AVG will be running and refuse to allow it to uninstall.

I must admit I mostly only use the Toshiba laptop once a month so that 3 housebound members of the club can see and join in meetings on Skype. Mind you the members make such a noise at meetings I will have to plug in an earphone to the laptop. So I am not bothered what version of Windows is running though I had to force a close down when I noticed a big MS update when I wanted to go home.

So why do you prefer Windows 8.1 to 10 and are MS likely to cease to support 8.1 much sooner than 10. Also if I install 8.1 on this old desktop does it automatically install all existing software like Win 10?

I am not complaining they only charged me some £30 for all the work.

Am I right in thinking MS no longer support this Windows 7 ? If so it would explain why I have not had any more updates for this desktop. This would also explain why the odd one would fail to install and I had to use the MS Trouble shooter for updates. Should I worry there must be thousands still using Win 7?

Sorry I have not replied to your kind advice before. I miss being notified by Email.

When it is very hot I now watch a tiny thermometer in this room, and refuse to turn on any PCs if the temperature is over 80F. So I update my site ready for the next day when it is cooler in the morning.

Thanks I have decided not to use any PC or laptop if the room temperature exceeds 80 degrees

On another subject many know what chaos MS go themselves in with mail on their Hotmail site. At last I can now use their Hotmail site direct or using Thunderbird.

I am now very wary of downloading free software. Like I forgot my Nero has an excellent MP3 burner to CD, and I could not fathom out how the burner with MS Windows Media Player is supposed to work. So I installed some NCH free software only to find it was not showing among the ADD/REMOVE. So I had to delete it all manually as it had the lovely habit of continually offering me all sorts of other software even some for accounting!!

I use AVG and it never seems to allow any nasties. I ran a full AVG scan a few days ago, but I understand MS no longer guarantee to protect us against malware with this Win 7 compared to as say Win 10 an 8.1. This probably explains while McFee failed to prevent two malware getting in before I restored AVG . I did manage to to remove the malware so they no longer show in the START programs as active on all the time. I had to use a special an extra ADD REMOVE programs software as the MS add remove refused to remove one by claiming the malware was still in use.

How do I disable a boot scan? Shall I disable AVG for a few minutes while the red LED is still active at first?

Thanks I only use AVG but it not always showing any activity while the red LED is glowing. I use the defrag often especially after MS updates, and I will use CHKDK agin to see if that makes any difference/

I should have made it clear the Windows Live Mail problem I am concerned is with this PC using Windows 7. But as I see MS have now decided to ceased supporting Windows essentials since 10 January 2017 I assume there is nothing more I can do apart from forking out for Windows 10.

Someone did post MS are supposed to be still making an update of Windows Live Mail, if so could anyone please post the URL to download it for Windows 7.

Meanwhile can anyone explain why it is impossible to copy and paste the whole of emails including images received using http://www.hotmail.com/ to say MS Word?

If you mean Windows 10 data spying I have no objections. I understand my AVG is doing likewise, but I cannot understand why MS having abandoned us still using Win 7 & 8.1 from using Windows Live Mail have the nerve to make any other mailer usable with all the silly warnings after an email is sent. That is unless we use the Outlook site.

If I was a lot younger and a wealthy I would sue MS for breach of contract in failing to continue to provide a proper working Mailer for Win7 and 8.1. After all they still flood us with endless Windows updates.
