    HI

    I have a XP Pro SP3 VM and, as a host, I have Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64 bit.

Now, on XP, I have enabled “Advanced File Sharing” function and I have set a shared folder.

When, however, from the host or from another computer (which has XP) on the network, I try to access the shared resource on the VM, I can see this resource, but, when I try to use it, the message of no authorization is displayed. Why? Why the classic login window does not appear?

    THANKS

Are they all Domain joined or in a workgroup or a mixture of both?

you need to pass the correct credentials for that server – you also need to make sure it’s not using simple sharing anywhere

In the first image, you’ll see the permissions of the shared folder on the XP VM.

While, in the following images, you’ll see what is displayed on the host when I try to access the shared folder.

    Where I’m wrong?

    THANKS

This are permissions issues and has nothing to do with VMware.
    Mod, please move.

Sorry but my host is also connected to a computer that has XP Pro SP3 and it has no problem using shared folders on the host but it has the same problem when I try to use the shared folder on XP VM.

So, even from a XP computer, I can not use this shared folder on XP VM.

So, I think that this is a problem of VMware Workstation 8.x

    nope it isn’t.
Try using the same userID and password on both XP systems.

As long as you use Windows Shared Folders it is a guest issue, and I’m very sure it’s an authentication issue. In the end you can browse to the system, you can see the share, yet you can’t access it. That is for sure an authentication issue.

Moved to the XP forum as its a permissions issue rather than a VMware issue.
