    hi There,
    I have a Windows Vista Business SP2.
I’m facing a issue with the DHCP Client Service, when i try to start the service it says “Windows could not start the DHCP Client service on local computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified “.
I tried running “sfc /scannow ” as a administrator, but no luck.
I did go thru different forums to find a similar issue, but strangely no one has reported anything as such (or i didnt search thoroughly)
I do not have a DHCP server, i do assign static IPs for all systems.
Please help me to understand this issue and fix it.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Unable to start DHCP Client Service – Error 2

    hi Kutty,

Please check the details of the service, and find out the path to executable.
On my W7 system this is done by going into services, finding dhcp client service, and viewing properties.
THen on teh properties page, it has “path to executable” as identified:

    C:Windowssystem32svchost.exe -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted

svchost is kind of a generic service program.

check who it is logging on as, check if it has any dependencies.
check the svchost file actually exists.
Compare your Vista machine to another vista machine, make sure the service is configured exactly the same.
If ytou’re not sure, export the relevant registry key from the known good machine and import it on the dodgy one, see if that helps.
