Possible to have a single label domain for Windows Server 2008 R2?

I’m adding servers to our Windows Server 2008 R1 with a domain “DSI”. I don’t remember how I did this a few years back.

Need to remove the new servers and add new ones. When I setup Win SVR 2008R2 if said it could only do DSI.com (FQDN)

This is only for a private office with no internet access for servers.

If we use DSI.com I might have to reconfigure all 100 Windows 7 clients as they are now members of “DSI” domain.

Thank you in advance. Hope someone can chime in.

To use short names, you need to have a WINS (Windows Internet Naming Service) installed which allows use of NetBIOS names on Windows. Then you can use names like DSI. Also, Windows 7 and later now use the full FQDN mostly.
