    Hi there

I have a HP Proliant server System Model ProLiant DL360 G6 running Small Business Server 2008. Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002

It has 8GB memory and a system disk (C:) of 60GB of which 22GB is available
It has a further 778GB Drive E: where data is stored.

It is the DC for the network running DHCP server.

It points its NIC to its own IP address for DNS.

Updates have been suspended form install or download.

It has been running fine for the past two years but has suddenly developed a situation where the clients that logon experience a very slow response actually getting into their systems.

We have around 10 – 15 users at most and probably the same amount of iphones syncing with exchange as well.

I simple server restart sorts the issue out for a few weeks but then it comes back again and everything slows down once more.

I have investigated the network switch and cannot find an issue with that.

I was suspecting a DNS problem but my knowledge is a little limited in this area.

    Any ideas???

Re: SBS 2008 slow client logon

I am moving this to the SBS forum for possible better responses

Can you initially post the results of an IPCONFIG/ALL from the server?

Re: SBS 2008 slow client logon

is there anything in the event logs on the server?
    what about the workstations?
(specifically, look for GPO errors, or redirected folder errors)

Where does the slow logon take place? Is it after actually logging on, or in the stages before a password is entered?

Does it happen for all computers or just some?
have you run any performance monitoring on the server? (hopefully you have a base-line to compare against)

Do the workstations boot up in a timely manner? In recent weeks, I have had issues with machines taking a long time to reach the logon screen (occasionally sticking on “Please Wait…”).

Presumably your issues relate to the actual desktop taking a long time to load (AFTER the username and password have been typed). Can you just clarify that?

    Regards,
    Stephen

Are your server and clients upto date with patches? Please clarify the above statement.
