    Hi all

Daft question i would always shutdown a guest vm if i needed to resize the disk, however a colleague is telling me he does it without shutting down the guest VM.
Is this possible ? I know i might get best practices throw at me etc which is why i always shut down.

We are on two esx 5.5 hosts without shared storage

    Thanks

Are you resizing the virtual hard drive or resizing the Windows volume within the guest OS? Which one is your colleague referring to?

I’ve done this exact thing many times and i don’t shutdown the system.

Expanding the disk inside the OS will depend on the OS used.

So its a windows guest OS and like Wullieb1 said he does resize the vhd, i just never realised you could do this on the fly.
