Hi everyone. Long time forum viewer, first time poster.

So I currently work for a small firm and my AD skills are, what I consider rusty.

    Here is the scope.

    1 Single forest
    2 Windows 2003 DC’s
    1 Exchange 2003

Currently the Domain and Forest is still at 2000. And all 2000 DC’s have been removed for sometime; all roles are in the correct location, and no old metadata is floating around out there with any pointers to the old 2k DC’s.

The prior admin never raised it to 2003 and I am tasked with doing so.

So I have been looking around and reading up on how to do this but I just wanted to run this by those folks that have been doing this more often and are better versed in such a task.

All I need to do is just go to Domains and Trusts and>Raise Domain Functional Level.
Make sure that Windows 2003 is selected and then press Raise right?

Is there anything I am missing here? Is there anything else I should be aware of or do before I raise this? Besides the normal steps, like performing a back up and such.

    Any feedback is greatly welcomed.

IIRC (no DC handy) you raise the DFL in ADUC and the FFL in ADDT
No other steps involved, although worth waiting for full replication after raising DFL and before raising FFL

So just so I get this right, Domain 1st then Forest.

    Hi,

How many domains do you have. You can do either it ethier way. Raising FFL and DFL unlocks options to use advance features like universal group membership, switching between group type, lastlogontime stamp, large site spanning etc.

    Only 1 domain.

Domain first, let it replicate to all DCs, then forest
