    Sorry if this is a too simple question, but can you do port mirroring from a gig port to an ethernet port? Where the gig port is the source, and the ethernet is the destination?

    Never tried doing it that way, but if the gig port is where the traffic is to be monitored from, that traffic is moving at 100 times the speed of the ethernet port (1000Mbps vs 10 Mbps). If your monitoring port is actually fast etherent, that’s still only 100Mbps, so speed is still an issue. I’d say the switch won’t let you do it because of the speed difference. Have you tried it yet?

    Fortune favors the foolish. I tried it and it worked. I was able to get the captured packets. I’ll try it again, hopefully with the same results.
