I’m pretty sure it isn’t possible in AD but I thought I would check.

Is it possible to allow a domain user rights to install activex add-ons from an intranet site. Is there a way of showing approved add-ons and assigning them to domain users? We are about to roll out a new system at work and I’m not really keen on giving domain users local admin right (600 machines).

If you need any setting clarified let me know

    Thanks for any help

    Hi Silverchewy

It can be done with GPO without the need to elevate privileges for normal users.
Path to follow for configuring would be:
User Configuration | Administrative Template | Windows Components |Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Security Page | Intranet zone
Check all the possible options in there and configure accordingly. The option you need to look at especially is Run ActiveX Controls and Plug-ins.
