    Hi, I know this is a long shot, but am hoping someone will be able to help.

    I have 5 boxes each running ESX 3.01 with around 5 Vms per host.

    We are using VCB to backup the VMs , but snapshots that are not cleared is making these jobs unreliable.

    I was wondering if anyone knew of a script I could run to remove any snapshots prior to the VCB jobs running to ensure that all VMs are clear.

    Many Thanks in advance.

    the command you would need is vmware-cmd /path/to/machine.vmx removesnapshot

    does that help at all ?

    Re: ESX 3.01 remove snapshots

    have tried that, think i have the syntax correct but now getting the error that the VM doesnt exist.

    just to confirm it is the absolute path to the vmx file that I need to use?

    Im using the following

    vmware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/4781f8a2-45eb2fc7-f8ed-00151724ac18/lrrr/lrrr.vmx removesnapshots

    EDIT
    ===
    Schoolboy error lol was trying to remove the snapshot running on the wrong host, think I was kinda hoping this would be host agnostic cos this could get messy when Vmotion is used.

    Thanks once again for the help on this one thecamel

    Re: ESX 3.01 remove snapshots

    Please check with command

    vmware-cmd -l

    You will get list of vms path.

    then you test OS -state

    vmware-cmd /vmfs/volume/vmfslabel/VMName/VMName.vmx getstate

    the try :)

    vmware-cmd vmfs/volume/vmfslabel/VMName/VMName.vmx removesnapshots

    Sample:

    [[email protected] root]# vmware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/44ebf538-51cc7998-2525-00145e1b556a/printer/printer.vmx
    removesnapshots

    removesnapshots() = 1
