I have read in the mircosoft website the following :

“This installation package is intended for IT professionals and developers downloading and installing on multiple computers on a network. If you’re updating just one computer, please visit Windows Update at http://update.microsoft.com .”

    Website:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

My question is if the sp3 is worthful to install on home PC. Bcz, I have installed a vista theme for xp which will not work on sp3.

    Thank you for your consideration.

Service packs should be installed as they also contain security patches as well as other software features and so on.

The reason for this is that a lot of administrators are using alternative deployment methods for their updates.
Therefor they should be able to download the package “as-is” without using SUS/WSUS etc.

However, you can update your machine too with this package or simply go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
