    Hi there:

    So, we had a pretty serious breach with an email going to a competitor that should definitely not have gone. The CEO tasked me with disabling auto-complete, which I did via a script in GPM (the script adds a reg key turning auto-complete off).

    The problem is, is that the users are able to go into their mail settings and turn it back on. I was hoping that sucker would be greyed out.

    I’ve looked at a couple of ADMs, but haven’t seen anything to get this done.

    Anyone of you fine folks got any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Oh, policy comes from a 2008 R2 box.

    Looks like it can be done with a reg hack.

    Setting the “ShowAutoSug” value to 0 in the [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeOutlookPreferences] reg key disables autocomplete.

    That is correct, Bertmax, and that is exactly what the script does, is push that key. Still, it does not prevent users from going into options and re-enabling.

    Thanks, though; keep the ideas coming!

    I believe the Outlook 2010 ADX template can do it, so worth further review.

    You can also use preferences in a GPO;

    Remember you can set permissions on registry keys via group policy, so you can push out the key and then lock it

    Re: Disable Outlook 2010 Auto-Complete

    I think the problem is not with disabling the option but preventing users form re-enabling it from the Outlook Options. I looked to see if there was a Command ID for that option that you could disable with Group Policy but I haven’t had any luck finding one.

    I think Ossian’s suggestion of denying the users permissions to the Registry key for that option might be the best/only way to do it.

    Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. You given me some good stuff to look at.
