    domain name is “city”

An AD domain has two names: An FQDN and a NETBIOS (pre-Windows 2000) name. “City” would normally be the NetBIOS name but it sounds like in your case you have a single-label domain name. In Active Directory Domains and Trusts is the domain listed as “city”?

Does ipconfig/all on the DC list a primary DNS suffix?

    Re: Creating a forest trust

    Host name = cityoffice
    Primary DNS suffix = City
DNS Suffix Search list = City

In AD Trusts its listed as City

OK, you have a single-label domain on at least one side. How about the other side?

Take a look at these links for information on creating a Trust with a single-label domain:

    Re: Creating a forest trust

Did you create an External trust or a Forest trust?

Which direction did you create for the Trust?

Do you want to create a two-way Trust?

Hello, I had the same problem what i did is i checked Dns server on both forest domain. In one domain it was unknowingly primary zone (eg. worldhospic.com ) was deleted. I created that again. Confirm that there was no error (The DNS server is not authoritative DNS for this record) accord while adding conditional forwarder. Nslookup was successful. Before this confirm good communication between domains. Hope this works.. :)
