I am curious how anyone handles creating volumes on a VM server that they want outside the VM datastore? I have an EqualLogic array and have a large volume that contains all my VM datastore stuff, but want to be able to put data on a separate volume for replication to another array without having to replicate the entire datastore.

I created a new volume on my EqualLogic array and configured the iSCSI connection so my VM server can access the drive. The only problem is I can’t use vmotion to move from one ESX server to the other, which I was afraid would happen.

Is there a better way? Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

    Thanks!

VMware needs to be able to see the datastore to be able to vmotion it..
