    Hi,

I want to know if there is any open source tool to supervise startups and shutdowns from a cluster W2000 to know when this happened and what produced it, sending an email to administrators. What kind of startups/shutdowns logs has the cluster W2000 by default?

    Best Regards.

There are 3rd party event monitoring tools – GFI EventManager springs to mind, or Microsoft SCOM, which would probably do what you want.

If you were using Server 2008 or above, you could also set actions on particular events occurring, but with 2000 (eek) you don’t

AFAIK event logs are all you will get

    Hi Ossian,

Thanks. Is Microsoft Operating Center for Windows 2000 servers free or you have to buy a license (in this case what is the price)? Which versión do you need to supervise these machines? Any open source tool?

    Thanks in advance.

SCOM is certainly not free – there are different versions (System Centre Essentials is light weight and cheap, and the full SCOM is more) and pricing depends on where you are. You would also need to check if any product supports Windows 2000 – it is a little past its “sell by date”.

Not sure about freeware monitoring programs – I am sure there are some, but you will need to research them. If you find anything, please post back!
