Even I had no problem installing the WiFi password for my BT HUB on Win 7 and Win 8.1.

But no mater how hard I hunt I cannot make sense of various instructions for Win XP such as for a Dell laptop how to enter the password. The icon for the BT HUB shows OK along with others like BT Hotspots, but just complains Windows was unable to find a network key to log on for the HUB.

Is the password a string of 10 hex characters (0-9, A-F) or is it more complex?
If the latter, it will be a WPA2 password which was not supported fully on XP. See instructions here http://murfitt.net/blog/dan/2007/10/…ing-windows-xp for workarounds or go into settings for the router (if you dare) and enable WEP security which is weaker than WPA2

EDIT – it may alternatively be 128Bit WEP (22 hex characters, IIRC). If so, :google: for help or post back

Thanks my BT HUB password consists of numbers and lower case letters. But the point is unlike with Win 7 and 8.2 nowhere can I see anywhere asking me to enter a password. That is unless some fool is calling it a SID or something

Going back a long time, you need to start something called the Wireless Zero Configuration service (start-run-services.msc) on XP. It has been a while, though….
