  • need to extract setup.exe

    Hi,
I need to get some drivers from Lenovo Packages.
Most of the drivers were simply extracted from initial package (before actual install).
But I have few that after running create Setup.exe that is not extractable anymore.

    I found this:
Extract driver from any LENOVO package (exe)

    <PACKAGE>.exe /VERYSILENT /DIR=<PACKAGEPATH> /Extract=”YES”

    I placed my setup.exe into c:\DO\setup.exe

along with .bat (corrected quotes from example):
    setup.exe /VERYSILENT /DIR=DO /Extract="YES" pause
When run .bat looks like it works. But then nothing placed in \DO folder.

    What I am doing wrong?
    Thx.

Try a full path so /DIR=C:\DO

Also SETUP.EXE /? to see a full list of switches and options

      Re: need to extract setup.exe

      I run setup /? it shows :
      ---------------------------
      Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter
      ---------------------------
      USAGE:
      Setup.exe /Option <Required Parameter> [Optional Parameter]
      EXAMPLE:
      Setup.exe /s [/f1"<Path to the response file>"] [/f2"<Path to the log file>"]
      Setup.exe /extract_all:"<Path>" NOTE: <Path> must exist.

      ---------------------------
      OK
      ---------------------------
Created batch using the example, but it still not creates nothing in my c:\DO (setup.exe is in the same directory)

      Setup.exe /extract_all:"c:\DO"

        Ossian,
I did exactly what you recommend before reading your advice.
So I run it by HELP example. Probably, missing something...

          Re: need to extract setup.exe

          Bingo!

I created a folder DO1 on Deskop and run this:

          Setup.exe /extract_all:"C:\Users\ma1\Desktop\DO1"

It just couldn't extract to C:\...

            Re: need to extract setup.exe

OK, to test I downloaded the first driver package in the link you gave
            Saved file to E:\DO
            created directory E:\DO\Drivers
Ran an Administrative CMD Prompt (Windows 8.0)
            Ran FILENAME.EXE /verysilent /dir=E:\DO\Drivers\ /Extract="YES"

Content has been created in E:\DO\Drivers - obviously I didn't go further as they are not applicable to my OS

            Possible reasons:
            a) Admin CMD prompt
            b) Extract to different path
(Just tested again and it isn't B)

Just a thought - when you ran SETUP.EXE, was that the filename as the extraction includes a file called setup.exe so extracting to the same directory would fail
Also I didn't do it in a bat file

              Re: need to extract setup.exe

              mine is 8.1
              used Admin CMD
Tried DO1 folder on c: as a destination.

              Didn't work.

Changing Path to c:\..Desktop worked fine.

              Thanks for your input!

If you have a lot of Lenovo drivers to download often then the Lenovo Update Retriever may be for you. Has a nifty driver Export function in it as well.

I need drivers to be extracted for importation into MDT (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit)

Did you try the Lenovo Update Retriever tool?

                      Extraction syntax:
                      Code:
                      xxxxxxxx.exe /VERYSILENT /DIR=%PACKAGEPATH%"=YES"
xxxxxxxx.exe is of course the downloaded driver direct from Lenovo
                      1 1 was a racehorse.
                      2 2 was 1 2.
                      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
                      2 2 1 1 2

Update retriever didn't help (and there were blogs on Lenovo forum about some particular drivers).
I found a right on in SCCM package for the model needed.
