  • Silent SP3 Install

    Hello

    This is my first post, hopefully people can help me with this.

    I'm trying to install SP3 via script, as this script will search for current installed version, and it SP3 not install it will automatically install SP3 version in quite mode.

    @echo off
    rem ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +
    rem + This Batch will check your PC for SP version number
    rem + IF SP2 is installed, Script will Install SP3 in Quite Mode
    rem +
    rem ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +
    @echo off
    echo.
    echo =============================================
    echo This Script will install SP3 on your system.
    echo =============================================
    echo.
    Set K_="HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion"
    Set "P_=Service Pack 3"
    Reg query %K_% /v CSDversion|Find "%P_%">Nul 2>&1&&(
    Echo:%P_% is Already Installed. && ping -n 60 127.0.0.1>nul)||(
    Echo:Installing %P_%&WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe /quiet)
    if errorlevel 0 echo Installation completed successfully.
    if errorlevel 1 echo Installation can't be completed.
    echo.
    echo Strike any key to reboot your computer, or press Ctrl + D to quite.::
    echo.
    pause
    shutdown -r

    not sure if my script will do it's thing or not, I tired running it on SP2 PC & I waited for about 20 min, it just didn't do it's thing.

    can any one see anything wrong with it ?

    Doesn't echo just output things? I can't see where you actually tell it to install something?

    How about using WSUS instead anyway?
    cheers

      Nowhere in your script is there an instruction to execute the setup for SP3. Therefore it is to be expected that nothing seems to be happening

        Yes, here it is: &WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe /quiet
        (new command started after "&" on that line)

        \Rems

        How are you going to start this script on the computers? manually?
        Code:
        @Echo off
        Setlocal
        (Set Wait3=^>nul (ping.exe -n 3 127.0.0.1^))

        Set "K_=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion"
        Set "P_=Service Pack 3"

        >Nul 2>&1 (Reg query "%K_%" /v "CSDversion" |Find/i "%P_%") &&(
         title Required reboot ?
         Echo/ %P_% Already Installed.
         %Wait3% & goto:EOF
         )||(
         title Installing Service Pack 3 for Windows XP EN
         Set "setup$=path\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe"
         Echo/ Installing %P_%, do *NOT close* this box, do NOT logoff!!!!
         "%setup$%" /quiet /forcerestart /forceappsclose /warnrestart:60 /d:d:\SP3tmp\bu /log:d:\SP3tmp\bu\xpsp3.log
        )
        (not tested it this WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe install string. Run it with /? for help)

            Re: Silent SP3 Install

            i had a quick play with this one... i had to put the full path to the exe to get it to work.

            personally i would put my sp2 machines into an OU and throw a GP at it, admittedly i only have around 100 pc's to look after so it isn't a huge problem for me to do that.

              Re: Silent SP3 Install

              Hello guys

              Thanks for having the time to check out my script, yes I call SP3 installer

              Echo:Installing %P_%&WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe /quiet)
              I'm having my SP3 package on my flash drive, and I don't mind doing it meualy.

              I was thinking of doing GPO however it is to big to be distubuted in such way

              I installed WSUS however I'm having problems with it, so the idea of script came

              to my mind.

              As I know that when running this script it will look for PS3 installer in the current directory which is my flash drive, so it shouldn't be a problem.

              Thanks again for having the time to check it out
