  • User documents via logon scripts help.

    Hello,
In my company we have 100 existing users,
We have a new server which is a "User file server".
I need to map each user to his personal directory located on the server and synchronize it with the user 'My documents' folder.

i typed in the logon script:
    net use u: \\filersrv\users\%username%$
    is this line ok?

    if so,
i need a script that creates user folders by the username with '$' and share it with full control permission to the specific user.

if anyone knows such script i will highly appreciate it :P

    best regards,

    Daniel.

Hi, firstly. it would make more sense to just make the users directory hidden and not do it by individual user folders.

    \\filersrv\users$\%username%

share users$ out with everyone full control and, in security everyone full control

------Next is creating and linking a gpo to redirect the my documents to the users home drive.

user configuration>folder redirection> my documents, right click and choose properties.

setting = Basic -redirect everyone's folder to the same location.
Target folder location - redirect to the users home directory.

----------after that active directory users and computers.
go to the user account, right click and properties. choose the profile tab.

    Home folder
    connect U: \\filersrv\users$\%username%

hit apply and ok, log the user on.
You may want to set up offline caching too.

Re: User documents via logon scripts help.

I thought about the users$ I think security everyone - full control is too much, so i did some reading/testing and this config is secure.

share users$ out with everyone full control and, in the security tab click advanced.

deselect 'allow inheritable permissions from the parent to propagate to this object and all child objects, include these with entries explicityly defined here'
      choose remove.
Then, add the following groups/permissions, set to allow.

Everyone - (This Folder Only) <<it's at the top in a drop down menu.
      Create Folder/Append Data
      List Folder/Read Data
      Read Attributes
      Traverse Folder/Execute File

CREATOR OWNER - Full Control (Subfolders and Files Only
System - Full Control (This Folder, Subfolders and Files
Domain Admins - Full Control (This Folder, Subfolders and Files)
