  • Host Mem Usage Of VM Turned Off

    Senerio:

Say i have 24 gig ram and 24 cpu, cpu's are all being used, vm's add to 30 gig of ram.....I am 6 over....

1 machine has 6 gig ram, 2 cpu.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If i turn the machine off that had 6 gig of ram and 2 cpu, does that ram and cpu, get put back into the host, or is it accounted for because the number exists on the vm?

    Hope i explained that right.

A VM that isn't running shouldn't consume any CPU or Memory.

i know it doesn't consume, but does that ram and cpu, get put back into the host, or is it accounted for because the number exists on the vm?

The RAM and CPU are available either to the host or other VMs - it is not a question of "getting put back" - think of it as a pool you can borrow from
