HA will work if vCenter is down. DRS will not work when vCenter is down.

Re: If the V center down ?

thnx a lot for ur replay ... but really i can't understand they talking about HA during whole course and that we have to put the VMs machines in a centerlized place to avoid any down on physical Esxi5 and we have to have V center to give us the all fetures becoz without it we will no gain any new and after all of that if v center down DRS will not work also DRS the most important role form my point of view... so how i can solve this problem can i make more than v center ? sorry for bothering u

Are they not two different products -- the management suite and the hypervisor
Different HW requirements seem quite reasonable

I've no idea what you're talking about, but anyway you can use vCenter Heartbeat to setup a redundant vCenter environment.

Re: If the V center down ?

If you have a virtual vCenter server and the host fails, the vCenter server will be booted on an other ESXi server. This because that HA kicks in.
DRS in the other hand, load balance the the VMs across the ESXi hosts. For this vCenter is required.

If you run vCenter server on a physical server and vCenter fails, HA and ESXi still continue to work. DRS however needs vCenter so this will stop working.
