  • Linked mode with vCSA

Is linked mode possible with the new vSphere 5.0 VMware vCenter server appliance?
Basically id like to link a vCenter 4.1 server with the vCSA and see both from the VI Client.

    Nope.

    The current limitations:
    • No Update Manager
    • No Linked-Mode
    • No support for the VSA (vSphere Storage Appliance)
    • Only support for Oracle as the external database
    • Embedded database, DB2, only supports 5 hosts and 50 VMs
    • No support for vCenter Heartbeat

Not only does the VCSA not support Linked Mode, but you also can't mix vCenter versions in the same Linked Mode group, so your plan falls down on both counts I'm afraid.

          Scott.
I figured this was the case as the vSphere Web Client also doesn't support legacy clients 4.x and under. Shame VMware can't include this instead of forcing users to purchase new licenses for the additional support.
