  • VMWare Server 2.0 - Datastore

    Hi ladies and gents,

I wondering if there is a way to change the datastore location via command line either when installing VMWare Server or when it's installed.

I've tried editing datastores.xml and restarting the VM services but it doesn't work.

I'm up for anything to make it happen...registry hacks, vbscripts etc...

VMWare Server 2.0 = Windows version

    Cheers,
    Zuldan

just logged onto my VS instance.

on the right hand side, is "commands"
under commands is "add Data Store"
add your new datastore, remove the old one.

    pretty simple and straight forward.

Thank you for your response but that's change the datastore location via GUI. I need to change it via command line.

        look at vmware-cmd and vmrun

see if either of those help.

I've already tried those commands. They only allow you to manipulate VM's. They have no server functionality to add/remove datastores.

          Any other suggestions?

have you considered it just may not be possible via CLI ?

That's why I came to this forum...to ask the experts...

              Is it not possible?

not sure - I've given you a couple of suggestions.

If it's a desperate, urgent need, you could also use your support contract with the software vendor.

                  Found the solution:

                  net stop VMwareHostd
                  edit %allusersprofile%\VMware\VMware Server\hostd\datastores.xml
                  net start VMwareHostd
