  • ESX 4.0 U2 Cloning question

If I clone a VM w/ a 1TB disk but it is not using the full 1TB, will it only clone what is in use? or will I need to make sure where ever it is stored can handle the full provisioned VM size - 1 TB in this case.

    TIA!

If your disks are thin provisioned then it should only clone what is in use i.e. If you created a 1tb thin provisioned disk and your only using 1gb then the clone should only be 1gb as well.

ok, and since I can "inflate" the VMDK I am assuming then it is thin provisioned. It is only about 17GB. Thank you for the info.

No problem. You can aslo check by editiing the VM and clicking on the Hard Disk. It should tell you how it's provisioned.
