  • 64 bit operating system on 32bit VMware

I have a small lab which consists of three machines which are all running vmware workstation 7. All these three machines are having x86 processors, recently, I wanted to try out Windows server 2008 R2 which is a 64bit OS.

My question is; is it possible to have a virtual machine for Windows server 2008 R2 (x64) running on a 32bit processor (x86)? if it is possible how should I go about or if there is another virtualization software apart from VMware that can handle that please let me know..

    Please help!!

If you want to run a x64 virtual machine, you NEED a x64 capable processor.

Virtualization isn't emulation in that sense, so an x64 OS in a VM still needs to be running on a physical machine with an x64 CPU.
