  • Teaming Virtual NICS?

    Hi Guys,

So basically I've got a cluster of two hosts each with 8 gigabit NIC's installed. There are 4 Windows Server 2012 R2 VM's on each host.

All 8 NIC's on each host are teamed as one - VM Network.

I want to give say half the network bandwidth to a specific VM on each host. Do I simply add 4 virtual NIC's to said VM and then team within Server Manager?

    Help!

Do this at the vSwitch level - 2 port groups, each configured to use 4 NICs each as "active" adapters and 4 as "unused" adapters. Spread your VMs across the port groups. Make sure you set both hosts up in the same way, so you can still migrate and failover your VMs.

Thanks Scott, so basically break my 8 NIC's that are currently teamed as one switch into 2 groups and assign 1 group to the VM that need more bandwidth and the other group to the other 3 VM's on the host?

You can leave all the NICs assigned to the vSwitch, but create 2 port groups and manage the NICs per port group.
