  • Creating Virtual Server

    Hi ,

I am using a Dell Laptop 32 Bit Hardware , 4 GB Memory , One Ethernet Port.

Now for a testing purpose i have installed VMWare and installed Windows 2k8. Now i want to install a Exchange 2k10 on it ...but as exchange 2k10 must required a 64 bit hardware...so my question is ..is it possible to create a virutual 64 bit system using a VMware or Hyper -V without having a parent 64 bit processor...

    Please help...

    Thanks,

    In a word: No

Howecver, most hardware these days is capable of running a 64-bit OS

      Re: Creating Virtual Server

like ossian said - to virtualise x64, you must have an x64 hardware base, AND an x64 OS base.

Your laptop is, more than likely, x64 (unless it's VERY old) so just put an X64 OS on it, like XP-x64 or W7-X64

        Hi ,

Is there any tool available to check that my hardware are capable to install Windows 2008 R2 64 bit version and then install Exchange 2010.

        Thanks

              Re: Creating Virtual Server

I think VirtualBox from Oracle (a Sun product actually) is able to run 64-bit guests in 32-bit host system. I am not sure if the host still has to have x64 CPU. Haven't tried it, but it might be worth a shot.

If you want to use a VMWare product, why is this thread in the Hyper-V forum?
If indeed you are interested only in VMWare, I will move the thread to the VMWare forum.
BTW, one of the Hyper-V's minimum requirements is 64-bit capable hardware. Without it, it will not work.

Kathy, what is the exact model number of your Dell laptop. 64 on top of 32 isn't possible.
