Re: cannot join to vmware center

    Your post made no sense.

Are you trying to add a new vCenter server to an existing vCenter via linked mode?

Is that account your using to install vCenter a local admin on both the new and original vCenter server?

Re: cannot join to vmware center

Hmm - Not too sure if that will work.

I've got linked mode working fine. Both vCenters are in the same domain and I used the same domain account to install vCenter on both servers. The domain account is in the local administrators group on both servers as well. Both servers also need to be able to communicate with each other preferably via DNS which might be causing you issues if one is in a domain and the other in a workgroup.

I would try setting it up like that and post back any results.

Re: cannot join to vmware center

yes thanks alot m80arm you guide me to solve it..
vCenter Server linked Mode. Error 28039. Setup cannot join vCenter Server to the linked mode group

The following requirements apply to each vCenter Server system that is a member of a Linked Mode group:
                  1. DNS must be operational for Linked Mode replication to work.
                  2. The vCenter Server instances in a Linked Mode group can be in different domains if the domains have a two-way trust relationship. Each domain must trust the other domains on which vCenter Server instances are installed.
                  3. When adding a vCenter Server instance to a Linked Mode group, the installer must be run by a domain
user who is an administrator on both the machine where vCenter Server is installed and the target machine of the Linked Mode group. <== This one is what most people miss. What you really have to do in this step is to create a domain service account & add it to the local administrator group of your original virtual center & your new linked virtual center machines. Then login with this account to the new machine to be installed with linked vCenter & when asked for the service account make sure you chose to use the new created service account credintial instead of the default local admin account.
                  4. All vCenter Server instances must have network time synchronization. The vCenter Server installer
validates that the machine clocks are not more than 5 minutes apart.

If you satisfy all of the above requirements specially the DNS one & the service account one(marked in red) you should have a nice successful installation.

We build first one as virtual machine till we p2v the physical server where we are going to install it, now we are going to move all configuration to new one

Re: cannot join to vmware center

Linked mode will not do that for you. Linked mode just allows you to make changes to both vCenters by connecting to one. It's main use is for SRM.

I would simply build the new vCenter, configure permissions how you required and then remove hosts from the old vCenter and add them to the new one. VM's will continue to run and will not be impacted. If you have clusters then obviously you will loose the fault tolerance / DRS capabilities until you re-add them to the new cluster on the new vCenter but that should only be for a few minutes.
