  • run Window Server 2012R2 with roles AD/DHCP/DNS in a isolated environment

I want to run Window Server 2012R2 with roles AD/DHCP/DNS in a isolated environment for testing on my home server setup on ESXi.
How can I accomplish this? Can you please provide some basic instructions.

I cannot turn off DNS on my AT&T home router.

    my setup.
    AT&T router with DHCP,DNS,
Two HP proliant servers with ESXi. vSphere5.5
I don't have a cisco router to setup vlans.
    thank you

DNS on the router is irrelevant if you can turn off DHCP for clients and set up server DHCP - just make sure you use the same IP range as the router wants to allow internet access

    Basic instructions:
    Create a new Server2012R2 VM
    Add static IP address
Add AD Role (DNS can be set up as part of this)
If you wish, add the router IP as a DNS forwarder
Add DHCP role and use Server IP for DNS server

If its isolated it won't have access to the network.

Concur with Tom for the setup but to create a test network you will need to create the relevant vSwitch and do not assign an uplink.

        Thanks Ossian.

        1. Created new Server2012R2 Vm
2.Added static IP address to vm server2012R2
        3. Added DNS role
        4. Added local router IP as DNS forwarder
        5. Added DHCP role.

What do you mean add the server IP for DNS Server?

What I want to accomplish is setup vSphere5.5 with two physical ESXi hosts. Setup Vcenter, AD, etc. Have all the lab vms intergrated in AD with DHCP and DNS and vlans...
I created the DHCP scope and my Server2012R2 vm is not working with DHCP scope. I manually added my local router DHCP IP.

I understand with no uplinks setup, the network will be isolated......

sorry if i don't make sense
