  • Does VCB Proxy need to be on the same box as Backup software?

I have a VCB Proxy install with a direct connection to our iSCSI SAN. I've tested the commands and I am able to pull from the volume just fine.

We have a separate box that we use for all of our Backups running Backup exec 12.5.

All of the documentation I've read says to install Backup Exec on your VCB proxy. Is this really necessary? Is it possible for me to issue the pre and post commands from our Backup Box via a share?

You will need the backup software - or a node (at least that is the term for Legato) to backup the VM's

You cannot execute the command from a share - because the VCB proxy will have to mount and un-mount the VM's each time in order to back them up.

The Backup software is required onthe VCB Proxy.
