  • Open Source/Freeware Backup for VM's

    anyone know of a piece of software out there that is <$100 or free that will do a scheduled backup of my running vm once a week?

    Are you using ESX or VMware Workstation.

    If your using ESX then check out this post by Simon Long who has used PowerCLI to manage this:

    You might have to make changes depending on your environment.

    You could also take a look at Veeam Backup and Replication:

    http://www.veeam.com/vmware-esx-backup.html

    Not too sure what the pricing is for this.

      I am using the free vmware server solution.
      I like the simon log one - looks simple - i will try a test.
      Any idea how much the Veem solution costs?

        Just to add to the list that m80arm provided, you could also look into the following:

        PHD Virtual Backup (formerly known as Esxpress)

        vRanger Pro by Vizioncore

        Also, depending on your needs using the canned VMware Data Recovery appliance may work if you are licensed for it.

          If you are comfortable in the ESX system you can use VCBGhetto.. It is 100% free, but does take some time to configure.
