  • ESXi 4.0 / Hyper-V 2008 R2 / XenServer 5.5 Feature Comparison

I looked through the various posts under virtualisation and couldn't find a feature comparison matrix, nor could I find an unbiased one on the web, and with the recent release of Hyper-V 2008 R2 as a free product, I wanted to compare it to it's main competitors, namely ESXi 4.0 and XenServer 5.5 which are both available as free downloads.

One of the main points is that Hyper-V 2008 R2 includes clustering and live VM migration, just as XenServer does, but ESXi does not.

So I've been working on a comparison matrix of my own, and included it as an attachment to this post. I've included the features you get for free, as well as the features needed to enable VM redundancy/failover at the guest and host levels. Please take a look and let me know if I got something wrong.

    Thank you.
