  • Need to know the very minimumal CPU

I have come across articles online that had me thinking. I am currently unemployed and want to learn vmware.

I have an asus p4p800 e deluxe motherboard with adaptec scsi controller and drives. It is a 3.0 GHz P4 with hyper threading.

It is not a dual core or a computer with dual cpus.

The article I have seen online seems to lead me to believe I can install vmware 3.5 on a system without two processors. I know my scsi card is on the good list.

Does anyone know if I can possibly get it to install on a single processor like this. Just for testing purposes, I don't care about performance.

we have it installed on an asus p5kPro, with a single cpu. it's a dual core though..

you should be ok - but even if u try and it doesn't work, well, where's the harm, and you have learnt...

      gungadin,

The mininum hardware requirements for CPU's to run ESX is either a single dual core or dual single cores. It will not install on a single core system.

If you are building a whitebox system I have found the following site very helpful in the 2 systems for home lab that I have built:
