  • Backing Up A VM?

I have an Ultirum 1 tape drive attached to a physical 2003 server ... is there any way I can use this to backup the files from a virtual machine using the native NT/2003 backup?

VMware make a lot of virtualisation products. Which one are you using?

On what physical machine is this VM running?

Help us out a little here...

Short answer is yes. Network shares. If you want a detailed answer, you need to ask a detailed question. http://forums.petri.com/announcement.php?f=43

      Ah sorry

ESXi 4.0 is the host OS (physically a DELL 490 workstation). Both the VM in question (the system I wish to back up) and the physical server (an IBM x206 server, to which the Ultrium 1 drive is attcahed) are Windows 2003 enterprise.

So Windows NT backup can handle files on a network share yes? That'll work

Try it and see? I don't have a 2003 server to hand.

Thanks all ... I backed up 300 odd gig files successfully.

Not bad for Ultrium 1 with its 100GB native capacity
