  • ESXi 4: ViClient On Win 7

    Hi,

    It's debatable whether this should be here or in the Windows 7 forum (Mods, please feel free to move it if you think that's best).

    Running ViCLient for ESXi 4 on Windows 7 (64Bit) RC1 I get:

    Error parsing the server "<IP Address>" "clients.xml" file.
    login will continue, contact your system adminstrator.

    I tried the following solution (on Win 7 64Bit) that was given in VMWare's own forums:

    1. Placed the DLL in new folder "Lib+"

    2. Edited the VpxClient.exe.config as specified:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <configuration>
    <system.net>
    <connectionManagement>
    <clear/>
    <add address="*" maxconnection="8" />
    </connectionManagement>
    </system.net>
    <appSettings>
    <add key = "protocolports" value = "https:443"/>
    </appSettings>
    <runtime>
    <developmentMode developerInstallation="true"/>
    </runtime>
    </configuration>

    3. Created the VpxClient.cmd

    SET DEVPATH=C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Launcher\Lib
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Launcher\VpxClient.exe"

    Notes:

    • Tried both as two lines and 1, also tried with "%Program Files%" and "%Program Files (x86)%" to replace "C:\Program Files (x86)"
    • Tried the client running on XP (dual boot system) and it works fine.

    I figured I'd ask here ... any ideas?

    Had the same issue. Ended up running it via XPMode and it works fine and seamlessy intergrates into the OS.

      If you mean configuring it via the shortcut properties for XP compatibility mode, nope ... can't get it to work (same error).

      Can you be more specific about how you did it?

      MODS: Looks like I totally crunched ... can you move this thread into a VMWare or Windows 7 forum?

                "1. Placed the DLL in new folder "Lib+""

                there is your problem, remove the + at the end of the folder name.
                did it too until i figured that the + is openning the line and closing it.

                  Re: ESXi 4: ViClient On Win 7

                  In "Update 1" Windows 7 is fully supported now.
                  Where there is no need to do these steps mentioned in the thread anymore.
                  If you have any ESX4 license registered at VMWare, you will be entitled to download the Update 1, where the installation files for the updated vSphere Client exists.

                  And just to clarify, when I talk about Update 1, I am talking about Update 1 for ESX4 and ESX4i
