  • Brooktrout Fax-Card on VM

    Hi,

I'm trying to configure a Brooktrout TR1034 card to work on a virtual machine. (VMware server 2.0).

On my host i see the card as Telephony card on the device manager and can't see any COM ports that this card as added. (Under the VM i can't see that card at all).

    * Do anyone has an expirience with this card ?
    * Should i see on the Host COM ports that related to this card ?
    * Is there any chance the card will operate under the VM ?

Any suggestions or tips will be appritiate.

    PS
Is the situation or implementation off that issue is easier on MS Hyper-V ?

If this is a PCI card then there is no way to get this hardware emulated in a VM

I have the same card installed on my rightfax server and I do believe it is a PCI card...

Yes, you both right - it's a PCI card.

So, if it's a PCI card there is no way to operate it under a VMware server 2.0 guest machine ?

you can't pass a PCI device through to a specific virtual guest..

a Fax server is the kind of thing that's not really suitable for virtualisation

I would also have to figure out how to implement a fax modem card, so even with ESX 3.5, you still cannot do this type of card.

I'm using HP Blades, but thought maybe there is a way to do it through Vcenter.

Because Vcenter is a physical box, so if I installed it into the HP G5, then could ESX or Vcenter see it, for use on a vm with the infrastructure.

            Thanks,

            -Mike

As was said before this is not possible in ESX
