  • VMWare Web Access

Does anyone know of a way to set a virtual machine up so someone can access it via a web page or any other means?

Basically I need to give someone access to one of my virtual machines which is outside of my LAN.

    Is this possible?

My Host server is Win 2003 running VMware Workstation 6.0.4

Would this work or would I need something different?

In workstation you can open up external access to the VM with the option of accessing the VM directly with VNC.

          Re: VMWare Web Access

I canít seam to get it working with the VNC on the virtual machine, keep getting error 10061 but Iíve downloaded a trial of VNC Enterprise & this is working a treat, I can also access the server through a web page via the following:

Install VNC on the MV machine, et the password etc..
Make sure Java is installed on the client pc or what ever PC you will be using to VNC to your MV machine.
Open post 5800 on your firewall & point to IP of VM Machine.
Point the web browser on the client at: http://external_server_IP_address:5800
Enter the username & password your set on the VM machine
You should now have VNC access on the client PC via your web browser

            Re: VMWare Web Access

if your pc is the internet sharing server, then you might wanna use NAT to forward the vnc port to the vm.

which case, download vnc from www.realvnc.com and install it (no need for the ent, just use the free).
Once installed and configured, the java service runs on port 5800, this is the port you gotta forward from your win2k3 box to the vm.

            Hope this helps.

Otherwise I think logmein will do the trick for you.
