  • ESX3.5 VCB & Brightstor V12

    Hi All

    Has anyone had experience using the above together ? specifically using the arcserve vcbui.exe ?
    Have managed to get a snapshot taken but it ran forever over the LAN side not the ISCSi subnet.
    Does the ISCSi inititiator on the vcb proxy need to already have the luns presented to it or does vcbui.exe call the inititiator ?

    Also what 'exactly' does the 'mount' tick box do ? the wording in the docs seems a little vague!

    Basically if anyone has had some success with the above could they possibly share the setup please.

    Regards

    Ed

    Re: ESX3.5 VCB & Brightstor V12

    Hi Major,

    The LUN should be Visible to the VCB Proxy Machine, VCBGUI.exe do not call the scsi inititiator.

    The Mount option is to check if the virtual machine are mounting correctly.

    A few Questions for you:

    1) How long does the snapshot creates?
    2) How big is the Virtual Machine?
    3) What is the throughput with the File mode backup.?

    Suggestion: under the Location "C:\Program Files\ca\ARCserve Backup Client Agent for Windows" find the file VMDatastore.ini and check what is the UUID Value for the Virtual Machine you are backing up.

    if the Value is 1 then it is backing up via NBD try chaning it to 0 (or) 1, Below are the acceptable values

    0=SAN
    1=NBD
    2=Iscsi

    Let me know how it goes
