  • Installing Ubuntu 8.10 as a guest OS

    Hi everybody,
My host system is Windows XP pro SP3. I am using VMware Player for virtualization, and I would like to install Ubuntu 8.10 as a guest OS.
For an installation source, I got installation CD-ROM with Ubuntu 8.10.
How should I configure a VMX-file to be able to install Ubuntu onto a virtual disk from CD-ROM within VMware Player?

I don't think you can create VM's using VMware Player.

To create the VM you need to use something like VMware Server or VMware Workstation or ESX.

There are numerous resources on the internet that will generate .vmx files for VMware Player. Use Google and search for them. This sort of allows you to use the free VMware player like VMware Workstation, but without having to purchase VMware Workstation.
