  • Which VMware product on Server 2008 host.

    Hi,

Which vmware product runs on server 2008?

I want to run 2003 server 32 bit guest on 2008 host.

My cpu is 64 bit intel without vt.

    Re: vmware

    VMware Server

In future please choose a more descriptive thread title - choosing the subject "vmware" when you're posting in the VMware forum doesn't really tell us much about your question.

Re: vmware on server 2008 host

I have workstation 6.5 working fine on Server 2008

I would gather that almost anything that is certified for Vista wil probably run on Server 2008 as well.

          Re: vmware

Clarification required - is this for production use? If so, I wouldn't recommend the use of VMware Workstation.

            Re: vmware

Microsoft would like you to install the Hyper-V role. But we all know what the better virtualization product is. It starts with a V and ends with Mware.

                Google "compare vmware hyper-v"?

Well one of them would be VMware's 5 year technology head start over Microsoft.

Microsoft bought their way into the virtualization arena by purchasing workstation and server from Connectix. After realizing comparable VMware offerings were far superior, MS scrapped the versions they had bought and started over from scratch. Hyper-V came later.

This is not to say MS's products are unusable. MS products do fit certain needs. Whatever you decide, make sure your decisions are based on more than just cost alone.
