  • Installing Emulex HBA drivers on ESX 2.5.5

I've been trying to install the elxvmwarecorekit for the Emulex LP11000 HBA without any success.

My ESX 2.5.5 is currently patched to the latest update.

Whenever I try to install the driver, I get the following error:
    [[email protected] tmp]# rpm -i --force elxvmwarecorekit-4.0a27-2.i386.rpm
ldconfig: /usr/lib/ is not a symbolic link
error: cannot get shared lock on /var/lib/rpm/Packages
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Operation not permitted (1)

Not starting hba manager daemon because lpfcdfc driver module not loaded.
Load lpfcdfc driver module and retry.

I've tried uninstalling any prior version - there isn't any.
Again, the documentation are left to be desired.

Also, when I try to install the ElxLinuxApps for the HBAnyware, it fails as well.
    [[email protected] ElxLinuxApps-3.3a20-]# ./install
    ERROR: Cannot determine Linux distribution.
I didn't have this much trouble when I was configuring my 3.5 version.

    Any insight would be helpful.
    Thanks for your support.

This hardware is not supported on this version of ESX

    Emulex Fibre Channel Adapters
The ESX Server 2.5.5 drivers are based on the Emulex provided lpfcdd_732 7.3.2_vmw4 driver. This driver has been tested with ESX Server in various fabric configurations.
Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop configurations are currently not supported. Point‐to‐point or direct connections are not supported unless noted otherwise.
VMware ESX Server 2.5.4 Upgrade Patch 4 enabled support for 4GB Emulex Fibre Channel HBA.
