  • Updating VMWare server 2 from build 116503 to 122956. Needs uninstall first.

    Hi All,

I noticed that there is a new build of VMWare Server 2 (122956). First of all it seems there is no specific release notes for this build. How do I know if it is worth updating?

Second when starting the update install it informs that the older version (build 116503) needs to be uninstalled first. That seems a bit backward?
    Does it keep my settings?

I'm running it on WinXP SP2

    Thank you

    Release notes

What settings are you referring to?
If it is Virtual machines - it will not touch them.
If it is which machines are registered int eh console, most probably you will have to add them again.

      Hi Maish,

For instance the Network settings (host-only - NAT etc.) and the Auto startup settings.
If it is just a matter of adding the machines back in the console, that does not seem too bad.

      thanks,
      gitsie

      ps
any idea if there is a specific document outlining the improvements in the latest version? the link you mention, seems to be about version 2 in general

This looks like mostly a bug release

Network settings of your VM's are not affected - all this info is saved in the vmx file.

Host network setting will probably be changed - if it is a re-install.

Your VMs should automatically be found and re-added.

Virtual Network Settings on the host will be reverted back to default, at least they were for me. Not a big deal. These are pretty easy to reconfigure.
