What has been the experience of this software with VM's as well as alternatives/competitors at this level?

    Thanks in advance!

Using Acronis for the specific purposes of what? Backups or imaging?

      Re: Acronis Software

I'll tell you what I do:

I use DriveImageXML to create an image of the VM and then create an ISO image of the UBCD4Win CD and store that in my VM host datastore. If I need to restore the VM from this image I tell it to boot from the iso image and restore it using DriveImageXML from within the UBCD4Win running in the vm.

thx joeqwerty and gratz on the mpv status i'll definitely look into that more as it seems like a viable option.. i'm looking at backing up data remotely and this might just do the trick...

          Re: Acronis Software

I've been looking into them recently actually for server backups, the occasional image restore, as well as with VMs. There's a webinar I'm checking out tomorrow that you may want to as well:

Nov 20, 2008 10:00 am EST - Virtualisation and Disaster Recovery with Acronis True Image Echo

I believe this week they're starting to record their WebEx sessions, so you can contact them and get access to the recording.

[UPDATE] - Couldn't get into the webinar, apparently they cancelled it w/ no notice to users?

Just an aside, DriveImage XML is NOT free to businesses.

However, you could always try something like FOG or PING. However, I like Acronis the best out of the normal type imaging solutions. But if you have the cash go with something like KBox.
